JBWS is a private, nonprofit agency that provides safety, support and solutions for abuse for anyone who faces the issues of intimate partner abuse regardless of severity of the abuse, marital status, income, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnicity. The vision of JBWS is to create a community-wide culture that refuses to tolerate the presence of any form of intimate partner violence. More than 75 paid staff and nearly 200 volunteers work together with the help of the community to fulfill the agency mission. JBWS is an equal opportunity employer. Reporting to the President and CEO, the VP, Community Relations is responsible for advancing the JBWS mission and brand with the community, stakeholders, and media across all communications channels and vehicles. The Vice President is responsible for all agency public relations, brand management, and marketing through public speaking engagements, media relations, social media, websites, event publicity, special appeals, brochures, annual reports, newsletters, and awareness campaigns. The VP oversees the Professional Training, Teen Dating Abuse Prevention and Volunteer Programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage overall JBWS communications strategy, policies, and calendar
  • Manage and copywriting for social media, website, e-communications, awareness campaigns, and all print media
  • Press contact and press releases
  • Spokesperson to media and/or assistance to President/CEO as spokesperson
  • Coordinate the creation of video content
  • Presentations to civic, business, faith-based and other community groups
  • Collaborate with Development Team on fundraising events through event pre- and post-publicity, speeches, and event photography
  • Partnering with marketing and public relations agencies for pro bono assistance
  • Assist clients with writing and presenting their success stories
  • Serve on the senior leadership team and the Board Communications Committee
  • Supervise the managers focused on the training of volunteers and community professionals and the community and school teen dating abuse prevention program


  • 10+ previous experience in communications required
  • Human service non-profit experience desirable
  • Excellent communications, public relations, and presentation skills
  • Excellent written communications, including copywriting, press releases, and speechwriting
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Experience with Word Press for Website design, Blackbaud for e-newsletter design, Canva, and InDesign for graphic design a plus
  • Strong use of social media to engage audiences
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the mission of JBWS

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, marketing or related
  • Supervisory experience
