FT Legal Advocacy Services Manager
JBWS is a private, nonprofit agency that provides safety, support and solutions for abuse for anyone who faces the issues of intimate partner abuse regardless of severity of the abuse, marital status, income, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnicity. JBWS is seeking a dynamic manager to oversee our Legal Advocacy Services program. The position provides both direct services to victims impacted by domestic violence accessing the civil and criminal court system as well as management of the LAS program. Direct service staff assist victims with safety planning, filing complaints and attending court/legal proceedings at Superior and Municipal Courts in Morris County (currently virtual via Zoom), and providing additional resources to support needs.
The manager is tasked with collaborating closely with court staff to ensure effective, client-centered services are provided to the victim within the court system. The manager identifies and documents trends and barriers in the court proceedings and outcomes, recommending and performing specific court-based advocacy actions that JBWS and its leadership may take in support of victims. More broadly, the manager monitors legislative initiatives that affect victims of domestic violence, playing an active role in the development and implementation of services to enhance, expand and promote services to victims of domestic violence. Additionally, the manager plans educational legal information sessions in Morris County and coordinates the provision of legal clinics, consultation and representation by volunteer attorneys.
An ideal candidate has prior experience partnering with staff in public systems that are accessed by people in need, utilizing a macro-level perspective to provide direction to staff and the program; has the ability to develop strong working relationships with partners while also providing feedback to those partners; and has managed programs that serve individuals who seek services in response to a crisis.
• Master’s degree in social work or related field, required. LSW, LAC or MFT, preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred
• Minimum of 2 years’ managerial experience supervising staff in the delivery of direct services
• Understanding of the impact domestic violence and trauma on individuals and families
• Experience working in collaboration with another agency, preferably within a public system
• Ability to effectively and independently make decisions based on sound judgment
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Candidates with 40-hour domestic violence training, preferred. Candidates without training are required to complete 40-hours of domestic violence training upon hire
