JBWS Hands

Why JBWS?

JBWS offers safety, support, and solutions to those impacted by domestic violence in Morris County. We're there when a survivor calls our 24-Hour Helpline for the first time because they're concerned their relationship is unhealthy. We're at police departments moments after abuse is reported, offering victims critical access to resources.

When a survivor leaves their home in the middle of the night, JBWS is there to welcome them into our residential facilities and when it's time to face their abusive partner in court, we are by their side offering legal advocacy and support as they pursue a restraining order.  However, we don't just respond to abuse, we work to prevent it through community education and abuse intervention programs designed to end domestic violence at its source.

Each volunteer hour in New Jersey is valued at  $33.82

Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization. They are compassionate, committed, and energetic people who help us provide our life saving services to those impacted by domestic violence. There are many ways to volunteer for JBWS. There are opportunities to work with clients, as well as indirect service opportunities to support client needs in additional ways. To begin the process for becoming a volunteer in any capacity, please complete the Volunteer Application Form online. Opportunities for Direct Service:

Children's Program

Our children’s program provides a supervised environment for children whose caregivers are currently residing in our residential facilities or attending an in-house group. Children’s program volunteers provide recreational activities that assist children in the development of interpersonal needs, and improve their ability to identify and express their feelings. Volunteers help model appropriate adult/child interaction.

Note: Children program volunteers must be over the age of 18.

Crisis Response Team

JBWS’ Crisis Response Team (CRT) is comprised of trained volunteers who go to police departments and hospitals to meet with victims of domestic violence. There, they provide critical emotional support, information on domestic violence, as well as referrals to social service agencies, emergency temporary housing, legal resources, and more. CRTs are compassion people who commit to volunteering on a victim's time, not their own.

All CRTs must complete the online application, undergo an interview, complete background check, and then participate in a 40-hour training course. In addition, specialized training is provided to each CRT volunteer by their supervising manager.  Upon successful completion, volunteers are on-call to their assigned police departments to meet victims provide them support, resources, and information.

Note: Members of the Crisis Response Team must be over the age of 18.

Help Us Spread Awareness!

Due to the prevalence of domestic violence, it is highly likely that every person knows someone who is experiencing abuse right now. It's important to share information about domestic violence with your community so anyone experiencing abuse knows that there are resources available to help them.

Arrange a Speaker:

We encourage members of our community to become actively engaged in our mission to end domestic violence. You can help us promote healthy relationships by inviting JBWS to speak at your school, college, workplace, club meeting, or house of worship.

You can schedule a professional training program for your agency, hospital, firm, or department. You can even invite a member of JBWS to attend your book club meeting to speak about the warning signs of domestic violence and how you can help.

Together, we can make a difference.  Learn more

Share Information About JBWS:

One of the most effective ways to support JBWS is simply by talking about our organization! Start conversations with your family members, friends, and colleagues to ensure that they know the signs of domestic violence and are aware of the resources available to help.

To convey the depth and breadth of our services more effectively, we have compiled a Community Resources page. Filled with shareable and downloadable content, such as agency videos, flyers, brochures, JBWS program overviews, toolkits, and more,  this page has everything you need to start talking about JBWS in your community!
